Ford Mustang Fastback 2+2

Year: 1965|Miles: 84,989|Ext: Vintage Burgundy|Int: Black|

RB Collection is very pleased to offer this attractive and well-detailed 1965 Ford Mustang fastback. This is a car well known to us, as we have serviced regularly for a good client of ours and we know it to be a very sound, wonderful driving example of Ford?s classic pony car. We jumped at the opportunity to purchase it and are very pleased to offer it today.

The restoration was completed approximately three years ago and the previous owner has continually improved the car to ensure it performs strongly and remains reliable. The previous owner purchased the car from a local Mustang collector and enthusiast, who is also a friend of RB Collection. The car was solid, restored and painted shell with no drivetrain, so it was finished to our client?s specification. Originally a six-cylinder car, it now runs a fully rebuilt 289 V8 with a rebuilt automatic transmission. The entire fuel system was replaced down to the tank, and the manual drum brakes improved with a dual-circuit master cylinder. Dual exhaust was fitted and the suspension fully rebuilt. New styled-steel wheels were fitted, along with a fresh interior with correct carpets and black upholstery. New body rubbers were installed all around (including on the glass) and great care was taken to ensure good panel fit; the doors now shut with a satisfying feel. The Vintage Burgundy paint is correct to this car and while it was done in the early 1990s, it has held up very well and still presents handsomely. Body lines are straight and the chrome trim is in good condition, with nice quality reproduction bumpers and only very minor pitting on the tail light bezels.

Under the hood, the 289 V8 is exceptionally clean with no apparent leaks and very pleasing detail work. Period correct decals, markings and paint colors adorn the engine which runs like the proverbial Swiss watch. It starts easily with just a touch of the key, there?s no smoke, leaks or untoward noises to speak of. The transmission shifts smoothly and the car is an absolute joy to drive. Manual steering is easy to use even at parking speeds, and it is light and positive on the road.

The black 2+2 interior looks spectacular and is exceptionally clean. Everything from the headliner down was replaced as part of the restoration, and the cabin was enhanced with a period correct center console, Rally-Pack gauge cluster and period-look modern radio. Special kickpanels were added which incorporate speakers, so nothing was cut-up at the expense of sound.

Attractive and with excellent road manners, this may not be a concours-level Mustang, but it is an attractive, very usable and well-sorted car, perfect for an enthusiast who wants a fun and reliable classic that is great for touring, cruising and hobby-level events.
