1930 Ford Model A A3853059

By the late 1920?s, Ford?s ubiquitous Model T was beginning to show its age. Nearly 20 years in production and with over 15 million sold, the T would remain a popular sight for many years to come, but Ford Motor Company knew that it needed a drastically new model to maintain their position at the top of the market. Introduced in 1927, the Model A retained the T?s spirit of accessibility for the masses, but little else remained. The new four-cylinder engine was mated to a conventional gearbox and the controls were now via a typical 3-pedal arrangement. The complex Model T controls and planetary gearbox were now a thing of the past. The Model A was powered by a 3.3 liter, 201 cubic inch L-head inline four cylinder engine. The stout little engine produced 40 horsepower and propelled the little A to a top speed of approximately 65 mph. A wide variety of open and closed body styles were offered, as were pickups and delivery vehicles. The Model A was a huge success for Ford, and though it was only in production for four years, it sold nearly as well as the T on an annual basis. Nearly 5 million examples were sold before production ended in 1931.

This handsome 1930 Model A coupe is a nicely restored example that is both very well-sorted and charmingly attractive. It is mechanically excellent with a solid body and beautiful interior. Wearing an older restoration, the chocolate brown over black paint still presents very well with few flaws. The brown upper body is accented with an orange pinstripe and complementary orange wheels add a nice pop to the looks. The paintwork is executed to an attractive driver standard, and has recently been treated to a full detail by our expert staff. Panel fit is consistent and correct for a Model A. Chrome and brightwork are correct and in very good condition with little to no pitting found on the bumpers, and a very nice radiator shell is accented by a polished stone guard and topped with a wonderful period accessory Quail radiator mascot.

The interior trim appears to be recently restored with the seats and door panels in excellent condition. Interior fittings and switchgear are all in good working order. Wind wings and an opening windshield help keep the cabin comfortable on warmer days, while occasional rear passengers get the chance to ride in the rumble seat.

The engine (#A 3853059) is period correct for a 1930 and believed to be original. It is tidy, strong running and free of any major leaks. An alternator has been fitted for more reliable operation, particularly for night driving. Updated engine mounts were fitted during the restoration to keep vibration at bay. As part of our 108-point inspection, we performed a tuneup and fluid service to ensure it is fresh and ready to go. The engine starts readily and exhibits no smoke. It performs admirably on the road, with lots of torque and that classic Model A burble from the exhaust.

This charming Model A coupe is a fun and affordable entry into the collector car hobby. It is very solid, is a great driver and is attractive enough for club level shows and cruises. We love the Ford Model A for its simplicity and endearing nature. This coupe is an excellent example and is ready to be enjoyed on the road.
