The interior is restored to factory-correct standards, with original style leather trim, the original teak steering wheel, and factory air conditioning. Other options include the factory AM/FM radio, tinted glass, and power windows. As with the body, no detail has been overlooked in ensuring this is an authentic and beautifully restored car. This marvelous and significant Corvette has exceptional provenance, representing the last of the 1966 models before the C2’s swansong arrived in 1967. The big-block engine, four-speed gearbox, and fully-loaded interior make it a wonderful grand touring car, with huge reserves of torque and a 3.36 rear axle for high-speed cruising ability. Few American cars of the era can top the 1966 Corvette coupe for sheer beauty and on-road presence. The sale of this car represents a rare opportunity to acquire a concours-quality, historically significant Corvette in highly desirable specification. In 1963, General Motors introduced an all-new Corvette that was designed to take on the best Europe had to offer. Some sports car aficionados had criticized the first generation Corvette for putting style over substance when it came to handling and performance. That all changed with the debut of the so called “C2” second generation Vette. The frame had featured four-wheel independent suspension, available four-wheel disc brakes, and engines with optional fuel injection. The sophisticated chassis was wrapped in a gorgeous fiberglass body, designed in-house by Larry Shinoda and Pete Brock, led by GM’s brilliant design chief Bill Mitchell. Upon its debut, the C2 Corvette became an instant icon. With a range of powertrain and suspension options, buyers could spec their Corvettes to be everything from a scalpel-sharp sports car to a relaxed GT roadster, to a tire-melting muscle car. The C2 Corvette stands today as one of the most beautiful American cars of all time, and they remain hugely popular with anyone from the hobby-level enthusiast to the world-class collector.
