RB Collection is very pleased to offer this outstanding 1984 Mercedes-Benz 380SL roadster. This two-owner example has covered just 32,390 miles from new. Originally delivered to Euro Motorcars of Bethesda, Maryland, it is a highly original car that has never been restored, but rather has been carefully maintained and cherished from day one. The stunning color combination of Anthracite Grey Metallic (Code 172) over Henna Red leather (code 257) was an $853 option. The color is very rare and looks spectacular on this classic body style. The body is absolutely straight with no dents, dings or accident damage. Original paintwork is beautiful and a paint gauge shows consistent readings all across the body. It is solid and free of corrosion or rust repair. Like any classic Mercedes should, the doors shut with a satisfyingly solid sound and the panel gaps are precise all around. Typical trouble areas such as the rockers, rear splash panel and front lower fascia are solid and excellent.

Inside, the lovely reddish-brown leather is in fine condition with no rips, tears or excessive wear. Carpets are excellent and again show no stains or excessive wear. The cockpit wood trim is in great condition and complete, the dash is free of cracks, and even the original black canvas soft top, first aid kit and Becker Grand Prix cassette deck are in place. Inside the trunk is the original jack, battery box and original spare on an alloy wheel. Included in the sale will be the original hard top, hard top stand, books, extensive service records and a copy of the original invoice showing this car cost a very stout $44,673 in 1984.

Our in house team has performed an extensive, 108-point inspection and found this SL to be in excellent condition. It has clearly been cared for with no expense spared – evident in such details as the Mercedes-Benz factory battery, correct Michelin tires, factory stickers and finishes on the exhaust and an extremely tidy engine bay with correct fittings, clamps and gold-cad plating. All electrical functions work as they should and a fresh oil service was performed as part of our inspection.

With SL values increasing across the board, this is an excellent opportunity to acquire a genuine, low mileage example in collector-quality condition. It is highly original and has clearly been a cherished car from the day it was delivered. This is a no-stories 380SL that is ready for enjoyment.

RB Collection welcomes trades, offers and personal inspections. Please contact Geoffrey Isabelle or Alex Ruozzi at 610-398-9700 for more information on this fantastic automobile.

With the SL series of sports-roadsters, Mercedes-Benz forged their own vision of what a performance automobile should be. The original SL of the 1950s was very much a purebred sporting car, with its highly advanced fuel-injected engine, tubular space frame and independent suspension. But it was far from a stripped-out racer, thanks to the removable hard top and comfortable, luxurious cabin. This unique combination set the tone for future SLs such as the R113 “Pagoda” of the 1960s which combined the look and feel of a sports car with a relaxed nature of a Grand Touring car. The signature removable hard top made the SL a true four-season sports car. After Pagoda production ended in 1971, its long awaited replacement debuted in 1972 – the R107. The 107 carried on the spirit of its predecessor but in a thoroughly modern package that utilized fully independent suspension and a series of V8 and inline-six cylinder engines. Thanks to the timeless, elegant styling, the R107 lived on through 1989; making it the longest running passenger car series produced by Mercedes-Benz.
