DeSoto

Year: 1959|Miles: 63,819|Ext: White/Bimini Coral|Int: Gray/White|

This 1959 Fireflite is a stylish personal luxury car loaded with typical DeSoto flair. One of just 1393 examples built, this is a very well restored car in fantastic colors, and a former First in Class winner at the National DeSoto Club Convention in Akron, Ohio in 2005. Documentation shows this car was also once part of actor Bruce Willis’ private car collection and the sale will include a copy of an old title in Mr. Willis’ name. Celebrity ownership aside, this car stands on its own as a wonderfully restored and high quality example. Given the cost and complexity of restoring such cars, it is rare to see one presented as well as this one. It is finished in a wonderful two-tone combination of white with a Bimini Coral roof and side flash. Paint quality is excellent, with no flaws to speak of and the vast body panels are straight with even, precise fit. It is loaded with factory optional trim including stainless wheel covers, rocker trims, decklid accents, and many others.
The interior is restored to factory correct standards and presents in excellent condition. Two tone upholstery is excellent with no flaws to speak of. Options include power windows, power adjustable outside mirror, power steering, power brakes and pushbutton Torqueflite automatic transmission. This car drives beautifully, DeSoto’s signature torsion bar front suspension providing a plush yet controlled ride, and the transmission shifts smoothly and cleanly. Beneath the hood is Chrysler’s 383 cubic inch V8 topped with a four barrel Carter AFB carburetor as original. It runs exceptionally well, delivering excellent performance both around town and on the highway.
This rare and desirable DeSoto Fireflite hardtop is a wonderful example, beautifully restored to show-winning standards. With the added bonus of celebrity ownership, this fine automobile is highly collectible as well as being an outstanding driver and a proven show winner. The DeSoto nameplate was first introduced 1929 by Chrysler Corporation as a mid-priced brand to support the upmarket Chrysler line. But the marque seemed doomed from the start, as the purchase of Dodge Brothers had just been completed around the same time, and suddenly Chrysler had two competing mid-priced marques. Eventually DeSoto was poised to compete with the likes of Mercury, Buick, and Edsel for the lucrative middle class buyers, becoming a style leader at Chrysler, surviving through 1950s, with the final year coming in 1961 as Chrysler consolidated into three brands.
