Chevrolet Chevelle SS Convertible

Year: 1971|Miles: 70,672|Ext: Black/White Stripe|Int: Black|$54,000|

This 1971 Chevelle SS Convertible has been extensively restored, presenting in very good condition. This car has been treated to a host of upgrades, including the addition of a 427 cu.in. big block mated to a Muncie 4-speed transmission. Aside from its impressive technical specification, the body has been very well restored and presents in beautiful condition. Finished in triple black with painted white stripes, the Chevelle looks outstanding in the metal, with nice, straight panels and good body alignment. The paintwork shows a few minor blemishes found on close inspection, but the overall look is outstanding. It rides with an aggressive stance on a set of staggered 18-inch Torq Thrust II wheels, wrapped in 255/40-18 front and 275/45-18 rear tires.

The all-black interior features bucket seats, a center console, and suitably upgraded instruments. It was extensively restored using period correct upholstery for the seats, proper loop carpet and new door panels. The cabin is in excellent condition, showing only minor use since the restoration. Fittings include AM/FM stereo, seat belts for front and rear passengers, air conditioning, and a power operated soft top with a glass rear window. The car also includes the original set of wheel.

With any Chevelle, it is what’s under the hood that matters. This car is fitted with a 1968-date coded 427 big block, topped with Edelbrock intake and 750 CFM Edelbrock Performer carb. The engine breathes through a set of Hooker headers and dual exhaust and is well detailed with chrome accessories. Power is sent through a four-speed Muncie transmission and a stout GM 12-bolt rear end. Other features include power steering, power brakes with discs up front, M41 suspension, high-performance rear sway bar and boxed control arms. The suspension and undercarriage are well detailed and clean, in keeping with the rest of this fine car. It has been driven and enjoyed on a regular basis, but it has been kept very clean both inside and out. This Chevelle is a blast to drive, with the 427 delivering a massive kick in the pants and delivering that classic Chevy big-block soundtrack. The suspension and brake upgrades keep things under control and return a comfortable and confident driving experience. Tens of thousands of dollars have been lavished on this excellent Chevelle convertible, and it remains in turn-key condition, ready for its next owner to enjoy. Chevrolet’s mid-sized Chevelle is one of the most popular, recognizable and iconic muscle cars of the 1960s and 70s. First introduced for the 1964 model year, the Chevelle was offered in response to strong competition from Ford’s mid-sized Fairlane and like the compact Rambler which were eroding sales of the Chevy II and Corvair. The Chevelle was an instant hit, selling nearly 340,000 examples in its first year alone. The original A-body platform remained in production from 1964-1967, seeing one major restyle along the way. For 1968, Chevy completely redesigned the Chevelle with a distinct, rounded body that, with minor year-to-year changes, would remain the mainstay of the Chevy line through 1972. Over the course of production, Chevrolet would fit everything from the mundane inline six to the fire-breathing LS6 454 into the Chevelle, and owners would get even more creative, with countless examples modified for show, street, and racing.
