Mustang K Code

Year: 1965|Ext: Black|Int: Black|$64,000|

RB Collection is very pleased to offer a wonderful example of the rare and desirable K-Code Mustang; this 1965 Convertible finished in original triple black. It is a very sound and great driving example with excellent history, including a list of all previous owners back to 1965, a copy of the original bill of sale. This Mustang wears a good quality restoration, and it presents in very good condition with attractive black paintwork, straight bodywork and very good panel alignment. Chrome and exterior trim is in very good condition, and the car rides on a great-looking set of iconic Torq-Thrust wheels wrapped in meaty Michelin tires, giving it a purposeful stance and improving grip in the corners.
This Mustang is well-known to RB Collection as we have performed a great deal of recent service work, including rebuilding of the correct, original 4-speed manual transmission, rebushed Koni shocks, new interior door panels, and a great deal of sorting and service work to ensure it drives as good as it looks. The solid-lifter 289 Cubic inch V8 is well detailed, painted in correct K-Code black with the correct gold Rotunda oil filter, FoMoCo branded hoses, a classic AGM Autolite battery, and proper tower-style hose clamps. It breathes through headers and a high-flow exhaust system for just the right soundtrack. The engine starts easily, runs strong and delivers outstanding performance.
The original triple-black color combination is very rare and looks superb on this Mustang. The correct upholstery and carpeting are in excellent condition, and new door panels have been fitted in the last year. The original steering wheel is in place and it is equipped with the Rallye Pack gauges on the steering column. The manual convertible top operates easily and smoothly, and the correct pinpoint vinyl material is in excellent condition with no rips tears or issues. Also, the plastic rear window is excellent with no clouding or creases. A black vinyl top boot snaps in place and fits well when the top is down.
This rare and desirable K-code Mustang is a great example that is ready to be enjoyed on the road. It offers very solid cosmetics in combination with very good mechanical condition, making it a real joy to drive and a car that would be most welcome at a casual show or cruise night.

Late in 1964, Ford unveiled the ultimate factory performance Mustang. The “K-Code” High Performance option included a heavily reworked version of the proven 289 cubic inch smallblock V8 and high-performance handling package with Koni shocks. Putting out a very healthy 271 horsepower, the K-Code package made the Mustang one of the quickest pony cars this side of a Shelby GT350. That performance came at a cost, however. The Hi-Po K-Code option added $442 to the sticker on a base Mustang – compared to the base V8 option which cost just $75. It was the most expensive option available, so it is little surprise that production was low. Just 7,273 Mustangs got the K-Code option through the end of 1965 and numbers trickled down from there. In fact, out of nearly 1.7 million Mustangs built between 1964 and 1967, only 13,231 left the factory with the K-Code option.
